My Pledge to The Wrekin
Our country has had enough of politics that talks at people instead of listening to them.
Too often, communities are consulted after decisions have effectively been made. People raise legitimate concerns and feel ignored. Politicians make promises at election time, only for those promises to disappear once the votes have been counted.
I believe politics should work differently.
My pledge to the people of The Wrekin is simple: I will listen, I will act, and I will be accountable for what I do.
I will not promise you things I cannot deliver. I will not tell you what I think you want to hear. And when I take a position on an issue, I will explain why.
I believe in strong families, strong communities and a strong country. I believe hard work should be rewarded, our laws should be enforced, our borders should be secure, our Armed Forces should be properly supported and government should remember that it exists to serve the public — not the other way around.
But representing The Wrekin must also begin here at home.
It means standing up for our towns and villages. Protecting the character of our communities. Supporting local businesses. Fighting for decent roads, accessible healthcare, safer streets and properly maintained public services. It means challenging decisions when they are wrong and making sure local people have a powerful voice when decisions affecting their lives are being made.
My values were not learned in Westminster. They were shaped by a difficult start in life, more than eighteen years serving in the British Army, experiencing both success and adversity, and having to fight for much of what I have today.
Those experiences taught me the importance of service, responsibility, loyalty and standing your ground when something is wrong.
They also taught me what happens when institutions stop listening to the people they are supposed to serve.
I cannot promise that I will always be able to give everyone the answer they want.
I can promise that I will listen. I will tell you the truth as I see it. I will fight for The Wrekin. And I will never forget who I am there to represent.
